Things are changing around here…but I am back.
2011 in review
The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.
Here’s an excerpt:
A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 2,300 times in 2011. If it were a cable car, it would take about 38 trips to carry that many people.
Former Penn State Coach Busted for Child Molestation
Jerry Sandusky is a former defensive cordnator for Penn State. He helped the Ninty Lions to two National Titles. Now, he’s been charged with seven, yes, SEVEN counts of child molestation. Penn State athletic director Tim Curley and Gary Shultz, a vice president who oversees the school’s police department, are charged with covering up the crimes after they learned of them.
So, the AD and the former Defensive Cordnator are arrested, the AD for knowing, and not opening his mouth. Here’s the question…why hasn’t Joe Paterno been charged with anything? If nothing else, he’s been sitting on this information for years.
Now, before I go on a long rants here, Paterno might have been in the right. He did make a report to Curley. However, the question here would be, who knew what, and when did they know it. How long did Paterno know about the alagations before he said anything? Was he in on the meetings about covering this up?
Again, a jury didn’t think so. I would hope someone as legendary as Paterno, and someone who molds the minds of young men, would not sit on information like this, or even try to cover it up.
I guess the next question would be…when does the NCAA show up at PSU?
Flyers Fans Boo Hockey Fights Cancer Ad…Desperate to Keep Reputation Alive
Oh you fans in Philly. Nothing but fake tough guys. Really? You think your fan base is so hardcore? You boo Santa (oh wow, I’m so impressed, I’ll burp here.) The Vet had a jail INSIDE the Stadium. (I’m a Jets fan, you don’t scare me. We sexually harass women for halftime entertainment, wimps.)
So, hardcore, that last night, Flyers fans boo’ed a Hockey Fights Cancer ad, because it had figure skater, and all around pansy douche Sidney Crosby on it. Let me explain something, Crosby is the face of the league (ok, maybe the vagina of the league, but still a superstar). Most non-hockey fans know Sidney Crosby. If that was Jeff Carter on that ad, most fans outside of Philly would go “who the fuck is that?” Even better, put Chris Pronger on it, “oh, it’s good to see Duckman getting some work.”
Here’s the real deal, folks, Philly fans have this imaginary thought process that they are scary to the rest of the world. Come on, I’ve seen a scouser naked, now THAT’S scary. They think they have this “tough guy” reputation to uphold. Well, Philly, I’m here to burst your bubble, YOU DON’T.
You want tough fans? You want to see TRUE douchebags in action, take a drive down south to College Park, Maryland. When I want to learn what’s new in the world of fandom swearing, I head to the University of Maryland. I need to stay sharp on my couch burning techniques? College Park, Maryland. These “tough guy” Philly fans cannot even HOLD THE JOCK of University of Maryland students. Give me a break, Philly fans are tough. You’re having a laugh.
Five Things I Learned from Last Night’s GOP Debate
1. Herman Cain forgot to take his crazy pills again.
No, Herman, Occupy Wall Street isn’t an Obama conspiracy. Although, the Dems are trying to hijack this as much as the Republicans did the Tea Party. Nazis to the right of me, Commies to the left, here I am stuck in the middle with idiots. Get off of it, Cain. No one is protesting anyone’s success. (Unless your definition of success is lobbying and paying off politicians to make sure the playing field is uneven, and the staus quo maintained, then yes, someone is protesting success there.) You have proven to the OWS people that you don’t care about them, and are unfit to hold office. Sorry Herman, you better drop out the race and go back to making crappy pizza.
2. Michelle Bachmann should just be a concubine-domestic.
Oh yeah, I have all five black Republicans in the world hating me, and now I have all TWO of the feminist Republicans doing the same. It’s over Michelle. You were cute, I enjoyed looking at your boobs, but the problem is, you became unattractive to me the second you opened your mouth. I did love her cute little nod to Slipknot. “999 upside down is 666.” We know why she’s in the race still. She can put off a few more weeks of sleeping with her deep in the closet husband. I don’t blame her there…
3. Kudos to the moderators.
Why? For the first half of the debate, they have been doing what I have been wanting to do for months now, IGNORE RICK PERRY. This guy is nothing more than a hickoid, pro-wrestling type, who would have us all working at Wal-Mart by the end of 2013. You know, long hours, no overtime, no benefits. Then, when he did speak, he did something amazing. He was able to stick not just both feet in his mouth, but his whole leg, and his ass, which means…THE MAN SWALLOWED HIS OWN HEAD!
4. It’s good to see Newt Gingrich is still alive.
No, seriously, I had him panty deep in interns by now. I want Newt to stay in the race long enough to where he becomes the political version of Ric Flair. Forced to do crappy gigs (see: TNA) to hock his book, so he can make money to eat. Good on you, Newt. You keep whoring those books. Maybe one day, you and Ann Coulter can finally make that love child you guys keep dreaming about.
5. Ron Paul is the ONLY viable solution to defeat Barak Obama.
Paul and Romney were the only two candidates who actually sounded sane last night. The main problem I have with Mitt Mutt Romney is that the man used to be a “venture capitalist.” Translation: He was the a-hole that would come into people’s company and tell them who to lay off. Yet, you want to trust putting people back to work in his hands. Okay there, sparkles.
Ron Paul is the only candidate that actually GETS what Occupy Wall Street is really about. Well, to an extent, Newt does too, but I digress. The financial system in America IS broken. Hey, I even agree with Newt Gingrich AND Ron Paul, end the Fed and send Barney Frank to prison.
Ole Ball Coach’s Pimp Hand Shown to be Very Strong
Don Spurrier is back, and it’s time for those of us in the media to either kiss daddy’s ring, or experience the strong pimp hand. Ron Morris decided to tempt fate, and think for himself. Today, daddy Spurrier reminded Mr. Morris that if you come with your pimp hand, it must be STRONG. Obviously, Ronnie didn’t learn the lessons of 1994, when “sad little fat man” Larry Guest was also hit with Steve Spurrier‘s pimp hand.
What did Ron Morris do, exactly, to earn the ire of The ‘Ole Ball Coach? There was a quickly redacted article about Bruce Ellington, where Morris decided that Spurrier just poached him from the basketball team (mind you, Ellington was Mr. Football in South Carolina his senior year of High School.) Then this little ditty that the loss against Auburn was ALL 100% STEVE SPURRIER’S FAULT, AND THAT POOR STEPHEN GARICA SHOULD GET NO BLAMMMMMMMMMMMMME!!!! Oh yeah, there was that column where Morris thinks Steve Spurrier is an incompetent administrator.
Morris has been drawing the ire of Gamecock fans for years. Some, even calling him “biased towards Clemson.” Things have gotten to such an anti-Morris pitch that Garnet and Black Traditions actually stopped advertising with The State newspaper until Morris is no longer working for said paper. Is it fair? Sometimes, no, sometimes, yes.
Oh, and on the subject of pimp hands, five time suspended QB Stephen Garcia was give DAS BOOOOOOOOT to the South Carolina Gamecocks today, for falling off the wagon. Oh, the fun of drunks. Then again, at least he didn’t try to beat up a bouncer for not letting his underaged girlfriend into Pavlov’s, or get his face rearranged by a bunch of Benedict football players. Kids will be kids.
I’m sure Clemson fans are loving the fact the media is in Cola-vegas covering the three-ring circus Gamecock Football has become, rather than in Pickens County trying to talk up BCS Championships.
Man With a Plan Series: Require Personal Finance Classes in High School
Occupy Wall Street has inspired me. How? I want to do something, help out. So, today, I am beginning a series called “A Man With a Plan”. In this series, we’re going “outside the box”. Financial reform is seriously needed, but there is more we can do to help poverty, and possibly level the playing field in the United States.
The first idea that popped into my head was education. How can we educate the people better on fiance? How can we help people help themselves? Easy, personal fiance is something that needs to be taught while people are young.
Good habits are established when you are younger. This includes financial habits. How can we say that schools are preparing children for the “real world”, when most seniors in High School cannot even make a personal budget?
I know what you’re thinking…”Matt, this needs to be taught at home, you can’t rely on the schools to do everything.” You are partly right. What about the families where the parents work two and three jobs, and aren’t even home until the child goes to sleep? How can they be expected to sit down with their child and teach them finance? What about those families who don’t even know the meaning of the word “personal budget”?
The school can be provided as an aid to the families on how to set, and follow a personal budget. The benefits of having one, especially in college, is enormous. Knowing that you will not get kicked out of an apartment can help with study time, and could also help with your credit, which you will need to get some jobs. More than anything, this can aid people down the road.
Education is the key, it needs to be available for all.
Thoughts on Occupy Wall Street
“I’m not interested in preserving the status quo; I want to overthrow it.” – Niccolo Machiavelli
What has the “status quo” brought us? A system where the top 1% can control 99% of the population. They bought and paid for Congress, the High Courts and the Presidency a long time ago, they control the military industrial complex, the media, and most of the important land. Did you know that Ted Turner owns most of Montana?
Ok, enough with the talking points. What is “Occupy Wall Street” really about? Dirty hippies with no jobs just bored, and wants to blame “the man” for their problems, or are these people doing something that the American people should have been doing the whole time? Not talking about doing something, but ACTUALLY doing something to better their lives.
I have heard this being compared to the “Tea Party” movement, and it is valid. Once again, we see citizens that are tired of the status quo, rising up and taking their political views to action. However, the “Occupy Wall Street” people are not just a radical fringe of a political party, led by rich kids with nothing to do. These are legit concerns.
“We are the 99%,” is the rallying cry. We are the 99% of the American Population sick to death of the slavery from the top 1%. The truth is, we want a level playing field where we too can become wealthy. This is the TRUE American spirit. For too long, we have been fed lies and distortion, by the media, that has kept us at war with each other, as the truth gets perverted. We fight each other, while the top 1% have practices that are immoral. We fight each other, while the top 1% took our 401Ks, scammed us out of education, scammed us out of good jobs, scammed us out of “the American Dream”.
Yet, we cannot fully blame the top 1% for everything. We, the 99%, fell asleep. This generation has had it easier than any of the previous. The “Cold War” has been over for twenty years, there is no “great enemy” to unit and rally behind. We fell asleep. We’re too busy caring about Justin Beiber, American Idol, and anything “pop culture”, to realize that we have been screwed by our own people.
Why isn’t the Tea Party behind this? Where is Glen Beck in all this? When they formed in 2009, wasn’t that one of their big key issues? Weren’t we told that the Tea Party wanted the government back to the people, and that we had to make Wall Street pay for the bailouts? Isn’t that part of the Occupy Wall Street protesting? To me, the Tea Party should have been embracing this from day one.
I am behind the Occupy Wall Street movement. I am one of the 99%. This isn’t just like the Tea Party, we come from many political persuasions. I don’t see political parties when it comes to this, I see what Americans do best, stand up to tyranny.
We need to end the corruption of the current system. We are not “dirty hippies”, we have jobs, we just want better. Ron Paul is right. It’s time to end the Federal Reserve. It’s time to end our dependence on Wall Street. It’s time to get back to working hard. It’s time to roll up our sleeves and make this country great again.
That’s the beauty of America. If we see something we feel is unjust, we go out there, we protest it. We make the noise to change. Look at Greece, too at Europe, we aren’t that far behind, and Wall Street is just happy to sink the ship known as America. Do your own homework. These are just thoughts from a blogger. Get angry. Screw the “bumper sticker” slogans. If you want hope and change…CREATE IT YOURSELVES. That, in the end, is what Occupy Wall Street is really about!
The Month of a Journey
What a month! I’ve survived a breakup, the opening of the new Premiere League Season, and even going back to to school! This is mainly why I have been quiet. Things rarely go our way, but they will go in a direction. So, what are the lessons that I have learned over the past couple of weeks?
1. While trust is needed in a relationship, ALWAYS watch your back. You never know who you’re dating, or what they are capable of doing.
2. If you’re going to breakup with someone, man up and do it yourself. Don’t get your new girlfriend, or in this case boyfriend to do the dirty work for you. This is double true after you make up some cock and balls story about being in a mental hospital.
3. My passion for writing is back, but only in a recreational sense. I have come to learn, that when I am forced to write, I dread it. No more forcing myself into deadlines.
4. Manchester United will treble, at least, I’m convinced! This might be the greatest TEAM in United history. Notice, I said TEAM and not collection of individuals.
Just wanted to bring everyone up to date on what is a VERY overdue blog. More to come TODAY!
On the London Riots
It seems that the riots are over, now that the police have beefed up their presence in London, Liverpool and Manchester. Yet, what the hell happened? What turned a simple shooting in Tottenham into a country-wide five finger discount full of violence and looting? The pundits are already out.
Well, let’s look at some of the arguments…
1. Welfare Dependance.
This is what the right winged political talkers are using as the excuse. Sir Max Hastings wrote:
Years of liberal dogma have spawned a generation of amoral, uneducated, welfare dependent, brutalised youngsters
Is that really where we see this? A country so angry that their social welfare programs were about to be cut to the bone, found an excuse (Mark Duggan’s fatal shooting by police), and just decided to go 100% tee-total ape shit. Sir Hastings went on to call these people “illiterate” and “wild beasts”. Oh, how American of you, Sir Hastings. They’re poor, so they’re illiterate and have no discipline. You sound like a Glen Beck, Sean Hannity, or a Rush Limbaugh. All three would like to just get rid of the poor, and have called them “parasites” on several occasions. Try living as the “working poor”, and see where you are at. I’ve done it, yet, I’m educated (dropped out of college twice, but in the process of going back and finishing, mind you.)Many countries provide education for their poor, they provide the necessities.
At the end of the article, he does make a good point. The main issue is that they have no means of deterrent. Later in the post, I’ll go more in depth to this issue. Now, yes, we have taken things way too far when it comes to the help department. In the United States, you can make the argument that it’s more profitable to go on welfare, and just not work. No having to get up early, no having to waste gas, no bosses to deal with, no taxes. Hey, it sounds like the greatest thing ever, (note to self: Quit job, and go on welfare…I can have my nights of partying back, I am an alcoholic, I have a disease.) doesn’t it? Yes, there are people who made idiot choices, and they are doing what they can to live with the consequences. Those people need help. There are MANY who abuse the system, you cannot deny that. You get them off of welfare, make them work, and you can fix that problem.
The left argues the same point, really. They see this as people letting the government know they need help. Yet, here’s the caveat to that. Not all the cuts England has made has gone into effect yet. Therefore, you cannot say that anyone has been negatively affected by the cuts yet.
2. Lack of Parenting/Too much coddling/Lack of positive male role models.
Oh, I agree with this whole-heartedly. When you have parents going out into the street, looking with their children, something is wrong. However, is the problem that too many kids are growing up without a strong male in the household? I bring you this from Cristina Odone who wrote in The Telegraph this week,
A large and increasing number of youngsters are brought up without dads. The majority of rioters are gang members whose only loyalty is to the group and whose only authority figure is the toughest of the bunch. Like the overwhelming majority of youth offenders behind bars, these gang members have one thing in common: no father at home.
This has become a sad part of life. She brought up an article written by Harriet Sergent on April 14th of this year. In it, she wrote,
They have no direction at home. They’re mostly fatherless, and their very young mothers are only too happy for them to contribute money to the household from dealing or thieving.
They have no direction in their lives other than the fraternity — and supposed security — offered by gangs.
In the absence of family values, school ethos and any chance of a job, they have created their own feral and murderous rites of passage.
Can we blame them? A survey by the Princes Trust of 14 to 25-year-olds found more than half joined a gang to acquire a sense of identity, while a quarter were in search of someone to look up to.
Lips told me he did not get any guidance from home. His young single mother, far from disciplining him, ‘listened’ because he was ‘bringing home the bacon’ — up to £200 a day or more from drug dealing.
He said he had been making that kind of money since he had dropped out of school at 14.
Mom has to work three jobs, they see this at home, they see the pain on their mothers’ faces. I saw the same pain on my mother’s face. Yes, I grew up with out my father in the household. I saw how hard it was for my mother to raise two children on her own, while trying to date. Most of the guys she dated were scumbags, but to be fair, none of them put their hands on us for any reason. I cannot lie, at 13, I was tempted into dealing drugs. Do you see the kinds of money they make? With that kind of money, that’s a quick escape from a shotty life.
Which brings up the “Hip Hop Culture“, which gets a bad rap (pardon the pun). Hip hop has changed since I was a kid (and I grew up in the 80s and 90s!!!!). Hip hop used to be partly what was going on, but still could find the positivity in things. Hip hop used to say something, now, it’s all about the “bling bling”, and “beatin’ bitches”. Paul Routledge of the Daily Mirror chimes in on this one.
I blame the pernicious culture of hatred around rap music, which glorifies violence and loathing of authority (especially the police but including parents), exalts trashy materialism and raves about drugs.
The important things in life are the latest smart phone, fashionable trainers and jeans and idiot computer games. No wonder stores selling them were priority looting targets.
Stir into this lethal mixture the fostering of irrational anger against the world and disrespect for others and the end result is self-absorbed young people living at boiling point.
